2019 Charlotte - Area Chapter Scholarship Award Ceremony

Since its inception in 1993, the Charlotte-Area Chapter of the Florida A&M University Alumni Association has assisted Charlotte area students, financially and otherwise, who have an interest in attending or are currently enrolled at FAMU.  More than 300 Florida A&M University Alumni are located in the area and our goal is to help the young people of our community while raising the level of awareness of the need for higher education.

1932 Projects Foundation Scholarships

The mission of the 1932 Projects Foundation is to positively impact lives by providing scholarships to deserving and qualified members of the Beta Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. and students of Florida A&M University. In addition, the foundation will also focus on providing critical information to our underserved communities in the areas of financial literacy, health and wellness and family relationships. Since 2018, 1932PF has awarded over $14,000 in scholarships. Currently, the 1932PF offers the following two scholarships:

Te-Andre Anthony Brown (TAB) Memorial Scholarship

Jeffrey Allan Lamar (JAL) Memorial Scholarship

Torian Hazelton-Younge Scholarship

In 1996, our annual scholarship was renamed The TORIAN L.H. HAZELTON-YOUNGE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP in honor of one of our fellow Rattlers and charter members of the Charlotte-Area Chapter of the Florida A&M University Alumni Association who worked relentlessly towards the goals of the chapter.

Drayton Family Scholarship

In 2021, a FAMU NAA Life and Charlotte Area NAA chapter member initiated The Drayton Family Charlotte Chapter of FAMU NAA scholarshipto honor her beloved grandmother who understood the importance of higher education as the key to future success. With little education, her grandmother saw to it that her children achieve college degrees. The family seeks to extend that legacy for many generations to come.

Campbell-Aaron-Carter Family Scholarship

The Campbell Aaron Carter Family Scholarship was initiated in 2022 by FAMU NAA Life member, Lauren A. Carter, in honor of her mother, Charlotte Area chapter member, Patricia A. Campbell Aaron-Hills, and the four generations of Campbell family members to be educated at Florida A&M University. 

McCall Stafford Legacy Scholarship

The McCall Stafford Legacy Scholarship was initiated in 2023 by FAMU NAA Life Member Dr. Layla McCall Stafford as a way to 'pay it forward' in gratitude for the various scholarships that were afforded to her various family members in pursuit of their education. This scholarship is her chosen vehicle to continue a legacy of sowing seeds of education in others. 

Stokes Family Scholarship

The Stokes Family Scholarship was initiated in 2023 by FAMU NAA Life Member Jice Stokes as a vehicle to directly support Charlotte area students that attend FAMU. 

McCorvey Family Scholarship

The McCorvey Family Scholarship was initiated in 2024 by Charlotte Area member, Kellie McCorvey to encourage and support a a Charlotte area student that is pursuing an education and career in Engineering. 


Minimum Scholarship Requirements| HS Seniors/Incoming Freshmen

  • Currently accepted for FALL enrollment as a freshman student at FAMU.

  • Completed application consists of:

  1. Completed required responses on application

  2. Official transcript

  3. Proof of Acceptance into Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University

  4. Clear Photo (Headshot) of Applicant

  • If your parent attended Florida A&M University, they must be a dues paying member of the Florida A&M National Alumni Association for the current fiscal year.

  • Award recipients will be notified via phone and/or email. Funds will be disbursed for the FALL semester to the University on the student’s behalf at the beginning of the semester.

  • Submit completed application, copy of transcript/report card, acceptance, and photo using the application form.

  • Deadline for application submission: April 15, 2024


Minimum Scholarship Requirements| Returning (or Transfer) Students

  • Planning to enroll for Fall semester as a returning or transfer student.

  • Completed application consists of:

  1. Completed required responses on the application

  2. Copy of most recent Official Transcript

  3. Proof of Enrollment (or Acceptance if Transferring) into Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University

  4. Clear Photo (Headshot) of Applicant

  • If your parent attended Florida A&M University, they must be a financially contributing dues paying member of the Florida A&M National Alumni Association.

  • Award recipients will be notified via phone and/or email. Funds will be disbursed for the FALL semester to the University on the student’s behalf.

  • Submit the completed application, copy of transcript, enrollment/acceptance, and photo using the application form.

  • Deadline for application submission: April 15, 2024
